Last month, I shared with you some of my health challenges and the changes I planned to tackle. Once a month, I will share with you what I am learning, what is working, as well as my successes and failures.
This month I made the following changes…
I eliminated dairy, sugar, and gluten
I started lifting weights 2 times/week
I committed to 30 minutes of cardio exercise 5 times/week
I took the Whole 30 challenge – eliminated the above foods and the results were phenomenal – I slept better, I was less bloated, and had more energy.
I lost 3 lbs., gained 2.3% lean mass, and decreased my body fat by 2.4%, and lost 8 lbs. of Body Fat
I had some back sliding moments with food due to stressful days and schedules. (I could tell the difference in how I felt when I didn’t eat well.
Some of the cardio days, I only put in 20 minutes instead of 30 minutes.
Something new that I tried…
Zucchini Pizza (I added onions, but skipped the cheese)
Meal Prep on the weekend in preparation for the week ahead- I grilled up all of the meat I would eat during the week.
I sautéed onions, green peppers, and mushrooms to put in with my eggs for breakfast.
I am praying for the right perspective, as I walk this road with God. I want to take good care of the body that God has given me, but in a balanced way that honors Him.
My goals for next month…
Continue to change my eating habits.
Try some new meals from the Paleo Kitchen Cookbook
Lift weights 3 x’s /week
Cardio 5 x’s/week
Continue to lose body fat & gain lean body mass.
I will report back next month, but in the meantime, please know that I am praying for you as you seek to live a healthy, balanced life!
This article reviewed some basic data to keep in mind, as well as how you can find options to purchase medicaments. With the Internet flooded with varied web-sites selling numerous medications, purchasing remedies online is no longer a trouble for most of us. There are medications betrothed only for children. A lot of health care providers know about “sildenafil blood circulation“. What customers talk about “does viagra work“? Don’t forget, view “how much is viagra“. Professionals agree that solving ED on your own is unsafe. Finally most side effects vary depending on the dosage. Get in touch with your heartiness and stay wholesome for long years.
Last month, I shared my health challenges with Thyroid Disease, hormone imbalances, and adrenal deficiencies. This has been at 17-year journey of ups and downs, twists and turns, successes and defeats. Since my Health blog last month, I have consulted with my Doctor and I am going to begin a new journey to address the issues that she believes I need to work on next. One of my favorite music videos is Mandisa’s song, “Overcomer” because I can identify with the words. The song expresses how I feel about my health challenges. My body has not been operating from a position of strength. There are still a lot of things out of whack and the deck is somewhat stacked against me, but I am going to continue walking forward in faith, believing that God will bring the right people to help me, the strength to keep going, and hope that around the corner there will be better days are ahead.
You might be thinking to yourself, why is Heidi so willing to openly share what is going on behind the scenes with her health? Well, the scoop is, I am a firm believer that when God brings a challenge into my life, He wants me to somehow use that situation to turn back and help others. I am not a doctor, but I have learned a lot about metabolism, how eating and exercising can improve your health, what to do and what not do to achieve optimal health; and I want us to share ideas, so that we can help one another. There may be things you know that I don’t know and vice versa. I have a sneaking suspicion that I am not the only one out there who struggles with health issues. Just in my circle of friends, there are at least 5 – 6 of us, who are struggling with similar circumstances. So I think there may be some benefit to sharing ideas, recipes, and what we are learning from one another.
My plan will be two-fold. First, I will be adopting a new eating lifestyle that should improve my overall health, and more importantly, improve the issues my doctor wants me to address next, insulin resistance, leptin imbalances, and gut health. I will be focusing on eating foods that will improve my health and not compromise it. The Paleo Eating Plan has foods that are mostly gluten free and dairy free and should help me to achieve better health. Second, I will begin building muscle by lifting weights in hopes that the muscle will burn the fat off of my body and improve my metabolism.
I have two reasons for sharing this on the blog. The first is that I want you to know about this, so that you can hold me accountable to stick to the plan that my doctor wants me to pursue next, as I work to achieve better health. And the second is I believe that by sharing, we will be able to get new ideas about the recipes, food choices, and exercise options that are helping to achieve better health. Each month, I will report back on what God is teaching me, what new things I am learning about myself through this experience, what is working, what isn’t working, my successes, and my failures. I also want you to share your “take home” thoughts for the month on this subject, so that we can learn from one another.
Last week, I watched a music video by Colbie Caillat entitled “Try.” It really struck me to the core because as women, I do think there is so much pressure to try to always look beautiful on the outside. Often times, it is for the wrong reasons; to get attention or to look good on the outside without any care to what is happening on the inside, because society tells us we have to be a certain size and look like a model. I want to be very clear that the reason that I am embarking on this journey is to improve my overall health and well-being. My main focus is not on the outside appearance. In fact, I am going to keep doing the things I know I should be doing to improve my health regardless of the results. I refuse to get discouraged by the weight on my scales or the size of my jeans. My goal is to care well for the body that God has given me, entrusting the results to Him, knowing that he will take care of the rest. I am praying that I will feel much better and have more energy when I change some of my eating and exercising habits. I believe this shift in focus will yield positive transformational changes. Please consider joining me in this endeavor.

With the Internet flooded with various web-sites selling numerous medications, purchasing remedies online is no longer a trouble for most of us. There are medications intended only for children. A lot of health care providers know about “sildenafil blood circulation“. What customers talk about “does viagra work“? Don’t forget, consider “how much is viagra“. In 1997, I was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism. After having two miscarriages the doctors figured out something must be not quite right in my body and began running tests. It was determined that I had an underactive metabolism (Hypothyroidism) and hormone deficiencies. I was pretty naïve about the disease. I was just told to take some medication and that it would all be fine. No one would ever need to know that I had this condition. It is a silent disease that affects millions of people. It isn’t that outwardly noticeable except that you can see remnants of its effects – struggles to maintain weight, thinning hair, brittle nails, depression, lack of energy, brain fog & the list goes on. My plan was to overcome all of the side effects of this disease and not tell a soul. Little did I know back then, how much this diagnosis would wreck havoc on my body. It has changed my life and humbled me beyond what I like to admit. It’s not something that defines me, but it has become part of my story, so hang in there with me, it may not be all that Inspiring, but the story’s not over yet.
Since my diagnosis, I have gained and lost 20-30 pounds at least three times that I can count. I have tried everything under the sun… I have worked out, counted calories, and tracked my steps and my sleep, but so far, every time the weight has come back on to my body. You might claim that it’s all in my head that I just don’t have enough will power, that I am not thinking positive thoughts, or that I am a slacker who just doesn’t care anymore, but this is just not the truth. Sure I’m not perfect and I have been discouraged at times, but I truly want to be healthy again, to work hard at something, achieve it, maintain it, and not have to focus on it all the time.
This health and fitness thing has been a trickier endeavor for me than I had anticipated. Quite honestly, I never expected this challenge. It came out of left field. I really didn’t think it would become such an issue because I tend to be a goal setting, attack the problem and fix it kind of girl. As I have had time to reflect on this experience, I believe God is using this situation to teach me to rely on Him. My challenges in this area have prompted me to ask questions in an effort to seek answers. Through this process of openly sharing my struggles with others, there has become somewhat of a sisterhood in the matter. As I’ve talked with other women along the way, I have learned that they too, have had their battles to fight in this department. None of us goes totally unscathed. We will all face challenges with our bodies at one time or another, whether it’s a weight challenge, cancer diagnosis, Parkinson’s, ALS, Lupus, or <insert your health challenge>. Because I have chosen to talk about it, God has brought more and more women into my life that are in the same boat or at least in a similar struggle. Our stories my not seem very inspiring, but how we choose to respond to our health challenges is. I have met determined women, positive women, strong and courageous women, and never give up and try your best women! Their bodies may be outwardly wasting away, but their souls are healthy and strong! These women are INSPIRING to me!
Over time God has given me this little idea to encouraging one another with our health and fitness goals or challenges. Not necessarily in the way that society wants us to focus by having to look totally perfect on the outside, but in the way that God wants us to pursue. I think that sometimes we can make this area of our life an idol. An idol is anything that we pursue more that we pursue God. This isn’t what I am praying this Inspiring Hope for Health Group would be about, but could it be that God wants us to pray for one another, encourage one another, share ideas with one another, and collaborate on what is helping with one another. We could share recipes, fitness tips, and even get moving together as a group whether it’s participating in a 5K Run/Walk or a Bike Race, maybe it’s taking a hike, or working out together. Who knows where God may take our little Group. I wanted you to know that we will be forming a team to do just this, so if you are interested, please let me know. I am determined to walk forward in faith, continuing to turn every stone that God places in my path to do what I can do to stay healthy and fit, both physically and spiritually! Won’t you consider joining me in this endeavor? Who’s in with me on this one?
